More than 1,500 people have already responded to a survey assessing demand for a direct air link between Dundee and Amsterdam.
Dundee Airport launched an online survey on Thursday 7th August to gather information on the potential for a direct air link to one of the world’s leading international hub airports.
The results of the online survey at www.hial.co.uk/amsterdam-flights-survey.htm, which can also be accessed via the Dundee Airport homepage within the www.hial.co.uk site, will help the airport in route development discussions with airlines as it aims to increase the range of destinations available.
More than 1,500 responses have already been received via the website in the first week of the survey which will run until the end of August.
Initial results show that there is strong demand for a morning and evening service between Dundee and Amsterdam and that Amsterdam is rated highly both as a destination and for the access it provides to worldwide air connections.
Dundee Airport manager Graeme Bell said: “We have been delighted with the level of response so far and the positive data that the survey is providing. It is clear that there is strong demand for an Amsterdam service. More than 500,000 people flew between Edinburgh and Amsterdam last year and there is a real opportunity to secure some of this market given the population in Tayside, Perthshire and Angus.
“A direct link to Amsterdam would be of enormous economic benefit to this area for business and leisure travel so we need as many people as possible to complete the survey to give a good local evidence base for our discussions with airlines,” said Mr Bell.
The survey takes no more than 5 minutes to complete and will close on Sunday 31 August 2008. A summary of the survey findings will be published on the www.hial.co.uk website in due course. Paper copies of the survey are also available in the terminal building to enable airport users to complete them on site.
Confidentiality is guaranteed and no individuals will be identified in the reporting of the survey data, which will be processed according to the Data Protection Act (1998).
Dundee Airport handled 64,639 passengers in the year ending 31 March 2008, an increase of 22% on the previous year. Scheduled air services currently operate to London City with City Jet for Air France and Belfast and Birmingham with Flybe, operated by Loganair.
