Almost 23,000 passengers have used Dundee Airport in the past four months, according to figures published today.
The airport handled 22,929 passengers and 12,570 aircraft movements between 1 April and 31 July this year.
Traffic at the city’s riverside airport over the period included scheduled services to Belfast, Birmingham and London City, holiday charter flights to Jersey and a range of executive jet and private light aircraft.
The passenger total represents a 5.5% decrease on the same period last year, equivalent to 1,300 fewer passengers.
Dundee Airport manager Graeme Bell said: “In overall terms the airport is performing on a level with last year. The Flybe services to Belfast and Birmingham have done well since their launch in May and we are seeing a good level of executive jet traffic.
“The London market to date is a little slower than last year but that is to be expected given the slow down in air traffic across the UK this year. There is also less business traffic over the holiday period and the London numbers were boosted in July 2007 by The Open playing at Carnoustie.
“We will continue to work with our airline customers to ensure that the airport’s routes perform as well as they can and continue to make an important economic and social contribution to the city and surrounding regions,” said Mr Bell.
In the year ending 31 March 2008 Dundee Airport handled 64,639 passengers and 35,439 aircraft movements.
