Highlands and Islands Airports today welcomed the confirmation that Loganair will operate links from Kirkwall and Sumburgh airports to Bergen in Norway in summer 2009.
Loganair announced today that it would operate a new scheduled air service between Kirkwall and Bergen in Norway in summer 2009. From the end of May to the end of August 2009 Loganair will operate each Saturday and Wednesday.
The airline also announced that it would operate scheduled services in summer 2009 between Shetland and Bergen in Norway. Loganair intends to build on the success of this year’s programme when nearly 1,400 passengers used the twice weekly service. From June 2nd to the end of August 2009 Loganair will operate on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Both services will operate under the airline’s Flybe franchise which comes into effect on 26 October 2008 and be bookable via the www.flybe.com website.
HIAL managing director Inglis Lyon said: “Both the extension of this year’s successful Sumburgh to Bergen programme and the new Kirkwall service for 2009 are excellent news for the islands.
“These links to Norway will provide opportunities for business and tourism connections to be strengthened under Loganair’s Flybe franchise, which takes effect at the end of this month, and help to maintain the positive growth trends we have achieved at the airports in recent years.”
