A new service from Inverness to the German city of Düsseldorf will offer travellers from the Highlands a quick and easy connection into Lufthansa’s ‘Gateway to the World’.
Lufthansa German Airlines will introduce the new weekly service for a trial period between 20th June and 12th September 2009 offering up to 70 seats in a two class configuration. With a flight time of under two hours, it will enable passengers to access the quickest onward connections to Lufthansa’s worldwide network which currently offers 13,402 flights a week to 194 destinations in 79 countries.
“This new service is a direct response to passenger demand “, said Marianne Sammann, Lufthansa General Manager UK and Ireland. “It offers people living in the Highlands the chance to take advantage of Lufthansa’s reputation for punctuality and efficiency from their local airport. As well as providing a direct service to Germany, we have ensured that the flight times provide excellent connections to many other destinations – particularly across Europe. Lufthansa offers minimum onward connection times through our Dusseldorf mini hub from just 35 minutes, making it a real and attractive alternative to other major hubs.
”Of course, we must not forget that this new service also brings economic opportunities here by providing a direct link from Europe into the beautiful highlands of Scotland. Our customers tell us that this is an area which is becoming more and more popular, particularly with German tourists.”
“Lufthansa offers a range of highly competitive fares for both business and leisure travellers. We will be offering one way fares from Inverness to Düsseldorf from just £49, inclusive of all taxes and charges, as well as highly competitive Business Class fares to other destinations. For example, a return Business Class ticket to Madrid will be available from £753.
Düsseldorf and the surrounding area of North Rhine Westphalia are extremely popular with tourists. The elegant, commercial and cultural city of Düsseldorf features plenty of modern amenities, including Germany’s most famous shopping mile, the so-called swanky “Kö” (short for “Königsallee”) shopping boulevard. With a huge selection of bars and restaurants, concert halls, museums, a number of theatres and also a riverside promenade, it is immediately clear that locals in Dusseldorf enjoy the good life. Many of the best restaurants can be found within the Altstadt (Old Quarter) and around its many appealing back streets.
The surrounding area of North Rhine-Westphalia is the densest cultural region in Europe. Every year, 683 museums attract almost 15 million visitors offering quality exhibitions of the old and new masters and unrivalled treasures of art and culture. The region has 160 stages, a large variety of orchestras, and hosts many pop and rock concerts. In addition to the art, music and theatre, the area is also renowned for its architecture and historic manors and castles.
