Guidance Notes – Completing an Application Form
The application form should be completed in either black ink or typescript, to make it suitable for photocopying. All applicants must complete the form fully ensuring that the post applied for is clearly indicated. Do not attach a separate CV as this will not be referred to. You may add separate sheets if required but please follow the outline of the application form.
When the application period for the advertised post has closed, all applications will be “shortlisted” against the Person Specification for the advertised post.
Section 4D, the section headed “Additional Information” provides the opportunity for you to present your skills, experience, knowledge, and personal qualities, which are relevant to the Person Specification supplied along with the Job Description. You do not have to copy the text from the Person Specification, but please provide the information in the same order as the Person Specification. You should respond to each item on the Person Specification in detail. Indicating how you meet or have the potential to meet each item.
Remember to:
- be specific about your relevant skills, knowledge, experience, qualifications and personal qualities
- explain how you have used them and with what results
- explain how you would use them for the post applied for
- use information about your current and/or previous employment and voluntary work, community or leisure interests to respond to the items on the Person Specification
Where possible, give examples and be prepared to develop these during an interview.
Qualifications
Should you be invited to attend an interview you should ensure that you bring along both the originals of any educational certificates that you hold and a photocopy of the educational certificates. The Company will retain the photocopy.
References
For security reasons you may be required to account for your whereabouts for the last 5 years. We will take up references from all your employers during that period. If there are any gaps then please nominate a referee who can verify your activities. References are not taken up prior to an offer of employment being made by the Company.
Data Protection Act
Only staff involved in the selection process will have access to the information contained on your application form. All the details will be held in the strictest confidence and held on the Human Resources computer system. All information held will comply with the Data Protection At of 1984.
