Passengers travelling from Campbeltown Airport are being advised to allow sufficient time to clear security screening before their flights as new security measures will come into force on Monday 11th May.
Changes to hold baggage security screening procedures from this date mean that screening before departure may take longer and passengers should arrive at least one hour before their flight is due to depart.
The advice comes due to changes in the security screening regime at the airport required because of the more frequent use of larger Saab 340 aircraft for flights to Glasgow.
Highlands and Islands Airports will invest in new screening technology for the airport this year but until this work is carried out an enhanced manual screening process will be in place. All hold baggage will be manually screened from 11th May. To facilitate this interim measure, additional members of security staff have been deployed at the airport.
The terminal building at Campbeltown is open from 0845 - 1200 and 1400 - 1740 hours, Monday to Friday.
Campbeltown Airport manager John Lamont said: “In recent years passengers have seen a number of changes to airport security. The new procedures at Campbeltown are necessary to meet Department for Transport requirements and have come about because a larger aircraft is now regularly used for the Loganair/Flybe Glasgow service.
“We have discussed the changes with Loganair and we are both keen to ensure that passengers allow extra time to clear security for their flights. Passengers should arrive in plenty of time for their flight, be aware of what they can and cannot carry in hand luggage and cooperate with the security process as it is ultimately there for their safety.
“We want to make the process as straightforward as possible and are therefore keen to ensure that passengers are prepared,” said Mr Lamont.
