David Sutherland CBE CA (Chairman)

Mr David Sutherland was appointed Chairman of Highlands and Islands Airports Limited with effect from 1 April 2007. Mr Sutherland is Executive Chair of Tulloch Limited, one of Scotland’s leading house builders and developers. A qualified chartered accountant, Mr Sutherland has a very strong track record in the private sector and brings considerable commercial and financial experience to his new role. He is also a Director of a variety of other organisations. He has extensive experience in the construction sector within the Highlands and Islands. Mr Sutherland lives in Inverness.

Inglis Lyon (Managing Director)

Inglis Lyon became Managing Director of HIAL on 27 May 2005. Aberdeen-born Mr Lyon was previously Managing Director of Stagecoach East. He was educated at Inverness High School and completed an apprenticeship with a local garage before gaining an honours degree in Transport Technology from the University of Ulster in Belfast. Mr Lyon then joined Stagecoach where he held a variety of management positions initially in depot management in Chorley, Bolton and Carlisle before moving into senior management. He has held the posts of operations director in Cumbria and managing director of Stagecoach divisions in: Kenya; Warwickshire and Oxfordshire; Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire (Stagecoach East).

Dr Michael Cantlay

Michael Cantlay was formerly Chairman and Managing Director of Highland dress manufacturer and retailer Hector Russell.  Today his principal UK business is Inverness-shire based William Glen Ltd which owns and operates highland dress businesses in Toronto, Canada and San Francisco, USA.  Dr Cantlay also brings a strong track record at Board level in the public sector in Scotland.  He is Convener to Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park Authority and is Chair of the Board of Management to Forth Valley College.  He was formerly Chair of Scottish Enterprise Forth Valley and Deputy Chair of VisitScotland.  Dr Cantlay lives in Perthshire.

Mr Andrew Castell

Andrew Castell is a Chartered Accountant and has a background in Financial Services, having worked in investment banking and the insurance industry. He was formerly Group Finance Director of CBS Insurance Holdings PLC and Goshawk Insurance Holdings PLC. He has particular experience of corporate finance and corporate restructuring. He lives in Inverness-shire.

Mrs Linda (Linn) Phipps - lives in both West Yorkshire and Lewis and is active in Gaelic culture. She is a Management Consultant and was previously Chair of a large NHS Primary Care Trust. She is now a Non-Executive Director in an NHS Mental Health Trust. She has extensive experience in both executive and non-executive capacities in local government and public transport, including the rail industry.

Dr Charles A (Alistair) Goodlad - is a resident of Shetland and has been involved in a number of local private businesses. He has been very active in local government, transport and economic development circles within the Highlands and Islands, including the Shetland Islands Council, the Shetland Islands Amenity Trust, the Shetland Development Trust and Lerwick Port Authority.
