Q. What industrial action is taking place?

A.  Unite the Union has called upon their members to take strike action at Dundee Airport on Friday 17 February and Monday 20 February commencing at 00:01 and finishing at 23.59 on both days. 

Unite has also called on their members at the following airports to take strike action from 00.01 on 21 February 2023 and continuing up to 23.59 on 23 February 2023:

  • Barra
  • Benbecula
  • Campbeltown
  • Inverness
  • Islay
  • Kirkwall
  • Stornoway
  • Sumburgh
  • Tiree
  • Wick John O’Groats

Unite has also called on their members to take part in a ban on overtime commencing at 00:01 on 24 February 2023 and continuing each day up to 23.59 on 2 March 2023.

 

Q. What airports will be closed on the strike days in February?

A. Dundee Airport will be CLOSED for flights on Friday 17 February and Monday 20 February 2023 from 00.01 to 23.59 hours on each day.

The following airports will be CLOSED for flights on Tuesday 21 February, Wednesday 22 February and Thursday 23 February 2023 from 00.01 to 23.59 hours on each day

  • Barra
  • Benbecula
  • Stornoway
  • Sumburgh
  • Tiree

Kirkwall Airport will operate on a limited basis, opening between 07.15 and 13.00 on Tuesday 21 February, Wednesday 22 February and Thursday 23 February for inter-island flights only.

 

Q: Will airports be open on the days of strike?

A.  The following airports will remain open as normal on Tuesday 21 February, Wednesday 22 February and Thursday 23 February

Kirkwall Airport will operate on a limited basis, opening between 07.15 and 13.00 on Tuesday 21 February, Wednesday 22 February and Thursday 23 February for inter-island flights only.

 

Q. What will I do if I’ve booked a flight on a strike day?

A. Any passengers booked to travel to or from Dundee Airport on 17 February 2023 and/or 20 February 2023 should contact their airline provider for information relating to their flight.

Any passengers booked to travel on 21 February, 22 February, or 23 February 2023, to or from the following airports should contact their airline provider for information relating to their flight:

  • Barra
  • Benbecula
  • Kirkwall
  • Stornoway
  • Sumburgh
  • Tiree

 

Q. What will happen in the event of a medical or other emergency?

A. For medical emergencies airports within the HIAL group operate well-established local on-call medical emergency processes and this will continue.

Unite has confirmed medical and other emergencies that arise on days of strike action will be serviced.

Q. Will the strike action have an impact on travel for medical appointments?

A. If you have a medical appointment scheduled that requires you to travel to or from Dundee Airport on 17 February 2023 and/or 20 February 2023, you should contact your GP, hospital, or clinic to discuss your appointment arrangements.

If you have a medical appointment scheduled that requires you to on 21 February, 22 February, or 23 February 2023, to or from the following airports, you should contact your GP, hospital, or clinic to discuss your appointment arrangements.

Q.  What are my rights with regard to compensation claims in the event of industrial action?

A.  Passengers should contact their airlines and travel insurance company in relation to compensation and claim for costs.
