A city with over 881,000 bicycles, 1200 bridges, 165 canals, 55 theatres, 38 markets and a houseboat for cats. Amsterdam is a popular choice with all our travellers.

Home to over 50 museums, this is a city of culture, creativity and colour. The Museumplein is known as a symbol of the Dutch Golden Age of Art. Here the innovation and the heritage of the Netherlands is celebrated. A work of art itself, the Rijksmuseum is home to a vast collection of art, sculptures and more. Nearby, the Van Gogh Museum is also home to more than 1,400 pieces of work from the artist, Vincent Van Gogh. With Van Gogh's famous ‘Sunflowers’ painting, the museum is one of the most visited in Amsterdam.

Amsterdam is also home to many speciality museums and galleries. These range from curiously bizarre to scientifically wonderful. These include the Amsterdam Pipe Museum, The Cat Cabinet, and Micropia.

Another iconic museum in this beautiful city is the Anne Frank House. The museum offers a poignant glimpse into the hardships of a country at war. Described as one of the only museums that you will have to queue for, it is a moving tribute to Anne Frank and her family.

Famous for its canals, the city has been named the Venice of the North. Created in the 17th century, the four main canals formed concentric belts around the city. In 2010 this colourfully charming canal ring was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With 60 miles of water to cover, make sure to explore all that this city has to offer with a traditional canal cruise.

Beyond the city, travellers often visit Zaanse Schans. Here you can explore eight beautifully restored windmills. They are a stunning reminder of the country's industrial heritage.

For travellers visiting in the spring, discover why the tulip is a popular symbol of the country. The Keukenhof Gardens in Lisse is the perfect place to see the colourful blooms.
