Coastal defence project 2021-2023
Following planning approvals and a public consultation in 2021, coastal protection works along Broad Bay Beach were carried out between January 2022 and April 2023.
These coastal defences protect the infrastructure and future operations of the airport, and incorporate rock armour, reno matresses and gabion baskets.
The contractor for the project was a local company, using local staff. Materials were provided from a local quarry. Despite severe weather, the project was completed on time.
